In spring 2010, Corporate Europe Observatory invited Marcela Benavides from Ecuador Decide, a major Ecuadorian network of organisations that are opposed to free trade agreements (FTAs), to come to Brussels for a couple of months. She had the opportunity to observe how EU officials, governments, Parliamentarians, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and social movements in the European Union (EU) position themselves regarding the FTAs that the EU is currently negotiating with Latin America. She also observed how they interpreted and reacted to her network’s position on the FTA talks.
